Like a Lion

I was walking my dog, Boss, last night as I finished up listening to John Piper’s first sermon back after his sabbatical (which you need to go and listen to) – it’s awesome.  Anyways, I looked on my iphone for something else to listen to as I still had a little bit longer until we arrived back at the house.  I came to a song I recently downloaded, Like a Lion by David Crowder.  I’ve always been a big Crowder fan and this song is another log on the fire.

Few songs cause me to worship God the way this one did.  Now, I worship God when I sing to Him… but hearing a song that leaves you with no choice but to worship is a completely different ball game.  Here I was… walking Boss at 10pm, headphones in, hands raised, and singing aloud.  I was left with no choice but to recognize our God for who He is.  He is a roaring lion.  He is King.  He is coming back to complete what He already finished.  Our God reigns.

This song gets me pumped!  Hope it speaks to you.

Death in His Grave

I just wanted to share this song.  We sang this song for the first time this past Sunday morning in our worship gathering.  This is such a beautiful depiction of the Gospel.  I hope it moves you the way it did for me.

Though the Earth Cried out for blood
Satisfied her hunger was
Her billows calmed on raging seas
for the souls on men she craved

Sun and moon from balcony
Turned their head in disbelief
Their precious Love would taste the sting
disfigured and disdained

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a King
Laid down in grief
But awoke with keys
Of Hell on that day
The first born of the slain
The Man Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

So three days in darkness slept
The Morning Sun of righteousness
But rose to shame the throes of death
And over turn his rule

Now daughters and the sons of men
Would pay not their dues again
The debt of blood they owed was rent
When the day rolled a new

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a King
Laid down in grief
But awoke holding keys
To Hell on that day
The first born of the slain
The Man Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

On Friday a thief
On Sunday a King
Laid down in grief
But awoke with keys
Of Hell on that day
The first born of the slain
The Man Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

He has cheated
Hell and seated
Us above the fall
In desperate places
He paid our wages
One time once and for all

Lyrical Theologian

There’s nothing like a good beat to come over the radio to grab my attention just to realize that this is just another garbage song about money, fame, and loose women.  It drives me nuts.  I love hip hop music.  I have since I was little boy.  Something about the music itself has always grabbed my attention and managed to keep it.  There were many times I struggled with the influence the hip hop culture had on my life whether I realized it or not.  Seeking to find “good” hip hop music within the Christian Community was a joke ten years ago.  I used to joke that these Christian artists should hire secular producers to help them put together some decent tracks.  Well, here we are.  It’s 2010 and God is redeeming Hip Hop music.  I’d like to introduce you to Lecrae.  He’s a God gifted artist with a passion to make much of Jesus.  He’s a lyrical theologian.  I love hip hop music and theology, and I get a dose of both every time I listen to Lecrae preach the gospel through his music.

Here’s a little taste.

Ashley Smith

I’d like to introduce you to a great friend to me and my wife.  Her name is Ashley Smith.  She loves Jesus.  She’s a loving wife to her husband Micheal and an awesome mom to her kids.  She’s currently one of the worship leaders at Willowbrook Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL.  She’s a gifted musician with a soulful voice who is passionate about glorifying God in all that she does including her music.  Her music is fresh and honest.  She speaks the truth about our great God through her music and invites you in on her personal journey with Him through her lyrics.

She released her debut album, Complete, in March of 2009.  She continues to lead worship on a weekly basis at her home church while traveling for various gigs, events, and worship services.  She continues to work towards progressing as a musician.  If you get a chance to see her play in person, I would strongly encourage you take advantage of it.   The great news is that if you can’t see her live, you can buy her album online.  It’s also available on Itunes.

If you are around the Huntsville area in June then you’ll have an opportunity to see Ashley live.  She’s one of the artists playing in the Concerts in the Courtyard at Bridge Street Town Center on June 22, 2010 from 6:30 – 8:30.  It’s free and it’s outside.  So grab some family, friends, a blanket, or maybe a few chairs and come hangout and listen to some great music.

You can go to Ashley’s site for more info about her music, life, upcoming events, etc.

Here’s a video of Ashley singing one of her latest songs, You Have Come.  Enjoy.
